for dishwasher pete wherever we might find him

Posted on January 10, 2013

(dishwashing ramble) dishwashing *machines* are for restaurants and cafeterias and suchlike hundreds-or- even-thousands-a-day institutions. we haven’t got one here, so it doesn’t come up… but i stayed for lots of years in my last apartment without loading its dishwasher even once. we had one at home when i was a kid, though, and i loaded […]

first as tragedy, then as farce… lather, rinse, repeat

Posted on May 27, 2014

here for a moment is a display of the “parody periodicals” file. the last time but one that i ever showed this to anyone it was much smaller; now i’ve shown madeline this very display… or rather, something very close *to* it… and it occurs to me to show it off to the entire cooking […]

a return to normalcy

Posted on September 24, 2014

she: BLT on grilled french-bread. side dish: baconbits in leftover baked-beans, microwaved to get the refrigerator chill off. ice tea. me: bits of pieces of all the ingredients (darn well including the mayo). one egg, fried. my french-bread wasn’t toasted. some of it *was* buttered. instant coffee. powder-mix lemonade. and a few days worth of […]

routine maintenance

Posted on May 15, 2014

yesterday we walked down to the end of the block and back. and i did (at least) the two dishloads seen here. other “cooking show” stuff? mostly forgotten, i fear. i could bring quite a bit of it back (as i imagine), though. mostly it was madeline making the elaborate stuff: reverse-engineered redd-lobbsterr style cheese-&-garlic […]

half a lemon per entire pitcher of powdered ‘nade. arnoldize to taste. leftover pizza dipped in ranch.

Posted on May 5, 2014

some more fruits of my latest shelving binge and probably the last dishes i’ll wash tonight. i improved a bunch of the movie-and-theatre section today. madeline liked the homefries. yay, me. if there’s bacon trimmings set aside, heat ’em up in the small steel pan. wipe out the cast-iron pan & melt some butter in […]

yesterday’s news

Posted on April 23, 2014

the afternoon’s first-of-the-day load included most of the glass… including the new mason jar (that recently arrived here full of spaghetti sauce)… and got the cleanest dishwater. the jar is at the far right (in front of one of the [three] plastic pitchers… there’s usually at least one of these in the refrigerator, as this […]

BLT breakfast

Posted on April 14, 2014

most of the dishes seen here were seen yesterday on the other side of the sink, unwashed. they’re clean now (but not for long). meanwhile, instant coffee & a sandwich. iced tea for madeline. number theory and lots of it. dishwashing obviously. wow, 3 pm. starving. time to fry more.

24 times a second

Posted on August 17, 2009

i’ve been complaining lately… and not just lately… about the “rule of authority”, particularly as it works itself out in *schools*. “schools” here means—humpty-dumpty—K-PhD. where i come from, anybody without a “terminal” degree is a dropout. “schools are prisons”, say i. this isn’t “literally true” of course. it wouldn’t even have any content if it […]
