    New London – Helen (Douglas) Blake, 99, of 65 Westridge Road, New London, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

    She was born in New London on Dec. 29, 1911, the daughter of Archibald and Arline (Benham) Douglas. Helen married Robert J. Blake on April 2, 1945, in New London. Robert passed away Dec. 13, 1982.

    Helen attended Chapman Technical High School, and graduated from Brubeck’s Business School. She worked in the communications office at the Naval Underwater Sound Lab from 1945 until retiring in 1972.

    She was a member of AARP, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

    Helen is survived by two sons, Charles Keating of Waterford, and Robert J. Blake Jr. of Lexington, Ky.; a daughter, Judge Ellen Thomas of Alexandria, Va.; five grandchildren, Hannah, Owen and Nathan Thomas, Laurie Keating and Laura James; and several great-grandchildren.

    She was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy M. Douglas; three brothers, Franklin, Archibald and Courtland (Pete); and a grandson, Douglas Keating.

    A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. There will be a visiting hour from noon until 1 p.m. on Monday.

    In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory, may be directed to the Development Office, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, 365 Montauk Ave, New London, CT 06320.
