All Uphill From Here

So I’m supposed to take the driving test nine days hence. Four Decembers ago I drove into a parked car in an alcohol “blackout”. So Ohio pulled my license (and I did two weekends in jail and some probation and paid a bunch of money and whatnot). I could have reinstated just by paying fine a few months later, but I wasn’t ready to stop drinking yet, so I stopped driving instead. Never liked it in the first place.

The Bureau of Motor Vehicles extorts $425 for reinstating drunk drivers; this is evidently to give us a chance to deal with a righteous resentment (by letting go of it; Program doctrine has it that resentments get us drunk) since obviously my sentence should be up to the judge not some invisible god-damn committee. Okay, I’m over it. Heck, I’ve even dished out for insurance. Anybody who doesn’t resent those son-of-a-bitches is guilty of high treason.

But let that go. A nation cowardly enough to be ruled by Bookies and Loan Sharks deserves to be so ruled and there’s sure as hell nothing I can do about it anyhow. The point is, I personally am “doing the next right thing” and responding to certain economic pressures in what appears to be a pretty reasonable way. I’m counting this as progress.
